He grew up in the small town of Tomball,Texas where the prairie and woods were open to all young boys with a .22 and a fishing pole. He started target practicing  with his .22 target  at the age of 14 and has never stopped enjoying the sport.

He has been an active competitor since his early 20's in Muzzleloading Rifle, Pistol Bullseye competition, Rifle Metallic Silhouette and Shotgun. He has been a past director,member and officer of the San Jacinto Muzzleloading Club, Bayou Rifles of Houston, Texas Muzzleloading Rifle Assn'n, Capitol City Trap and Skeet and the New Braunfels SchuetzenVerein. He is a life Member of the NRA, the National Sporting Clays Association and a member of the Texas Rifle Association.

He has been a successful competitive Sporting Clays participant for over ten years and is a member of the 2008 Texas State Sporting Clays Team. He has won numerous awards in National, State and World Sporting Clays Events.
